From One To Two: Capturing Your Family’s Newest Chapter | Spencer

Welcoming Baby Spencer: A New Chapter for the Brewin Family

At Lavender Lane Photography, we have the privilege of capturing precious moments that will be cherished for a lifetime. Recently, we had the joy of photographing the Brewin family as they welcomed their beautiful new addition, baby Spencer, to the world. The photoshoot took place in our cozy studio in Chermside West, Brisbane, and the entire family was part of this special session.

As we captured Spencer’s first portraits, the focus of this blog is not just on the newborn photos, but also on the big change that comes with introducing a new sibling to the family dynamic. For parents like Emma-Grace and Chris, and their adorable big brother Oliver, this was a significant moment of transition. So, let’s talk about what it’s like to welcome a new baby into the family, especially when it’s the first time an older sibling becomes a big brother.

The Excitement of Becoming a Big Brother

When we met little Oliver, his excitement and curiosity were palpable. Becoming a big brother is such an exciting time, but it can also bring up a lot of mixed emotions for children. Oliver’s eyes sparkled as he held his baby brother, and it was clear that he was eager to take on his new role. But we also know that for many children, the arrival of a new sibling can be overwhelming or even a little intimidating.

Here at Lavender Lane Photography, we’ve had the privilege of watching many families grow and change, and one thing we’ve noticed is how these special moments can help foster a bond between siblings. Oliver, as a proud big brother, gently kissed Spencer’s tiny hands and smiled warmly at him. We made sure to capture these moments that highlight the unique connection forming between the two.

Tips for Introducing a New Sibling

While every child reacts differently to the arrival of a sibling, there are a few strategies that parents often find helpful in making the transition smoother:

  1. Involve the Older Sibling in the Process: From helping with baby clothes to picking out a special toy for their new sibling, involving older children in the preparations for the baby’s arrival can help them feel included and excited. It also gives them a sense of ownership over the new dynamic.
  2. Keep Routines Consistent: One of the hardest parts about welcoming a newborn is the disruption to daily routines. While babies need lots of attention, it’s important to try and maintain the routines that your older child is used to, whether it’s a specific bedtime, a favorite meal, or one-on-one time with mum and dad.
  3. Celebrate the Big Brother/Sister Role: Make sure to celebrate the big brother or sister role! Little Oliver had a few moments in front of the camera with his baby brother, and we made sure he felt like the star of the show. Letting your child know that being a big sibling is a special job can help them feel proud.
  4. Patience and Understanding: It’s important to remember that it can take time for older siblings to adjust to the changes in the family. They may act out or crave attention, and that’s normal. Be patient, and remind them that they’re loved just as much as before.

Family Moments that Matter

As we captured these heartwarming images of baby Spencer, we also took the opportunity to snap some photos of the entire family together. There is something so beautiful about the dynamic of a family when they’re in that moment of transition. The love Emma-Grace, Chris, and Oliver have for Spencer was evident in every shot, and these family portraits will surely be treasured forever.

It was wonderful to see the tenderness and care with which Oliver interacted with Spencer, and the joy Emma-Grace and Chris shared as they navigated this new chapter of their family story. The laughter, the quiet moments, and the excitement of welcoming a new baby are all part of the adventure, and we were honored to be able to preserve these memories for the Brewin family.

A Bright Future Ahead

As the Brewin family settles into life as a family of four, we know that the bond between Spencer and Oliver will only grow stronger with time. This photoshoot was a celebration of the love, excitement, and anticipation that comes with growing a family, and we couldn’t be happier for this wonderful family as they embark on this new journey together.

Thank you, Emma-Grace, Chris, and little Oliver, for allowing us to be a part of this special time in your lives. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for little Spencer and his big brother Oliver.
