Every now and then, a session unfolds so beautifully that it feels less like “work” and more like being invited into a little family adventure. The Cooper family’s sunset session at our stunning Nudgee location was exactly that. Full of fun, movement, connection, and love—you can practically hear the laughter in every frame.

Gabby and John brought along their crew of four, and from the moment they stepped into the tall grass, the joy was infectious. These kids were full of energy, big personalities, and sweet sibling moments that made it so easy to capture genuine, natural smiles (and yes, a little bit of cheekiness too).

Our location at Nudgee, tucked away in the northern pockets of Brisbane, gave us everything we could’ve asked for: golden light, soft grass, forest trails, and plenty of open space for the kids to run wild. It’s one of our favourite local gems as a North Brisbane family photographer—and this session reminded us exactly why.

Meet the Beautiful Chaos: The Cooper Family

Gabby and John are the kind of parents who roll with the chaos—and it shows. Their kids are confident, expressive, and clearly know they’re deeply loved. From the eldest to the littlest (who kept us on our toes the entire session!), this family brought the energy, and we ran with it.

We always say that the best family photos happen in the in-between moments—when no one’s looking at the camera, when everyone’s laughing at something silly, when there’s a shared glance that says, “Yep, this is us.” That’s the kind of connection we look for, and the Coopers gave us so many of those moments.

There were tickle fights, shoulder rides, a few epic races down the forestry path, and even a little quiet moment where Darcy perched on Mum’s lap with the sweetest little face (you’ll spot it in the gallery—trust us, it’ll steal your heart).

We chose this spot specifically for the Coopers because we knew their family would thrive with space to move. It’s not about forcing poses—it’s about letting the story unfold naturally. And with kids? That means lots of movement, chasing light (and toddlers), and keeping things light-hearted and relaxed.

There’s something so grounding about a dad who’s all in—with every hug, every piggyback ride, every goofy game that gets the kids squealing with laughter. Watching John with his four little ones was a total heart-melter.

He’s the calm in the chaos. The steady hand holding the smallest as the older three run wild through the grass. The one who gets the biggest laughs without even trying. In every moment, his presence was strong but gentle, playful but protective—and so full of love.

The way the kids naturally gravitated toward him, draping themselves over his shoulders, jumping into his arms, or just leaning into him in the quieter moments, said everything. He’s their safe space. Their adventure buddy. Their hero in the everyday.

Gabby was glowing—and not just from the sunset light (though that definitely helped). She has this beautiful, natural way with her kids. Soft hands brushing hair from faces. Warm cuddles that linger just a little longer. Gentle whispers that calm big energy. You can tell her presence is their anchor.

One moment she’s carrying the littlest on her hip, the next she’s wrapped in a big group cuddle—arms, legs, and little heads all tangled together like a patchwork of love. And through it all? That soft, knowing smile.

There’s a quiet magic in motherhood that we love capturing—those tiny gestures, knowing glances, and bursts of affection that often go unseen. But in photos? They shine.

These images are a love letter to the everyday magic of being “Mum.” And Gabby? She makes it look effortless. Her bond with each of her kids is individual and special, and it was an absolute joy to witness and photograph.

During the session, he had this amazing ability to switch between “fun big brother” mode and “gentle protector” in a flash. Whether he was goofing around with Liam or helping Darcy find his feet in the grass, his love for his siblings was front and centre. He’s the kind of big brother every little one hopes for—and capturing that was pure joy.

Mary: The Sparkle in the Middle

Mary was a dream. Full of bright smiles, sparkly eyes, and that perfect mix of sass and sweetness. She twirled through the tall grass like it was her own little runway, bringing so much energy and light to the session.

What stood out most? Her connection to everyone in the family. One minute she was holding Mum’s hand with total tenderness, the next she was wrapped up in giggles with her brothers. She brings the fun, the flair, and the heart—and we’re so glad we got to capture that.

Liam: The Wild Wonder

Liam was the little sparkplug of the crew—playful, cheeky, and always on the move. He’s the kind of kid who makes you laugh with just a look. He ran, he climbed, he threw his arms around his siblings in the most spontaneous, joy-filled hugs.

What we loved most was his curiosity—he was totally in the moment, soaking in the adventure of being outdoors, of being free. And those in-between moments, where he looked up at Mum or ran full-speed into Dad’s arms? Pure magic.

Darcy: The Little Scene-Stealer

Oh Darcy. The baby of the family, and the absolute star of the show. From those chubby cheeks to the way he toddled through the grass like a mini explorer, he was everywhere—and we were here for it.

Whether he was being scooped up by Mum, perched proudly on Dad’s shoulders, or wrapped up in a big sibling snuggle pile, Darcy brought the cuteness factor to a whole new level. But more than that, he brought the reminder of just how fast these stages pass—and how precious it is to freeze them in time.
